Description:

Woods Bagot, in association with Sanders Turner Ellick Architects of Mackay, was appointed the architect, health planner, interior designer and landscape architect for the AUS$26million redevelopment of Mackay Base Hospital. In master planning the redevelopment, the site and facilities were zoned into 12 hour and 24 hour operational areas, with the former comprising the major ambulatory services and the latter including inpatient, emergency and inpatient support services. A new main entrance was provided and public and staff circulation routes were rationalised to reduce travel distances and improve security, particularly after-hours. New building works comprise the Women’s and Child Health Service, Allied Health and Pathology Laboratory. Refurbishment of the majority of the Acute Clinical Care areas, including inpatient ward facilities, mortuary and support services, were undertaken.
